Living Room Tour - Making Space for Relationships: Art, Architecture, Community, and Access

This guided exploration of the National Arts Centre’s public spaces highlights the NAC’s indoor art collection, with a particular focus on Canadian and Indigenous works, and examines how art and architecture shape the visitor experience. The tour explores how the NAC has transformed and activated a building originally designed in the brutalist architectural style to create welcoming, accessible spaces for diverse communities.

Participants will learn how the 2017–2018 renovations expanded the NAC’s capacity to showcase art, offer free community programming, and extend experiences beyond its performance halls. Along the way, delegates will discover milestone events and initiatives that have brought these spaces to life while gaining insight into the opportunities and challenges of operating a national performing arts centre that remains open and accessible to the public throughout the year.
