Centre Pompidou 2025-2030 : the Constellation Strategy

Insights from Laurent Le Bon, President of the Centre Pompidou, at CTA Paris 2024

On the last day of the Communicating the Arts conference, Laurent Le Bon and his team welcomed the CTA delegates to the Centre George Pompidou, the iconic Parisian institution opened in 1977.
Laurent Le Bon, President since 2021, delivered an exclusive speech on the Centre's international strategy for 2025–2030, rich programming during renovations, key global collaborations, and the reopening project. This provided a unique opportunity for delegates to explore the behind-the-scenes of this renowned cultural center. Nearly five decades after its inauguration in 1977, the Centre Pompidou will be closed from 2025 to 2030 for essential maintenance and redevelopment.

This project presents an opportunity to create a large-scale cultural vision for the future Centre Pompidou. It will evolve within its original envelope while embracing modern expectations. By 2030, the public will discover a reinvented "moviment" at the heart of Paris.

Based on the notion of "moviment", a neologism coined by Francis Ponge in 1977 at the Centre Pompidou's opening, the renovation cultural program aims to reinvent the institution's original utopia while addressing future cultural, societal, and environmental challenges. The project's foundations include:

Interdisciplinary action

Since its inception, the Centre Pompidou's artistic singularity and DNA have been crossing disciplinary boundaries. It aims to continue echoing and engaging with current creations and societal issues.

Hospitality at the core

From its inception as a space open to the city and its inhabitants, the Centre Pompidou embraces all paths, curiosities, and desires. With sincere hospitality, it will offer a new, more caring, involved, and responsive address to visitors, passers-by, and tourists.

An experimental hub for youth

With the creation of a vast experimental hub for youth, the Centre Pompidou is committed to nurturing and cultivating the free and lively conversation with future generations.

Eco-responsibility as the project’s matrix

By remaining within its current envelope, without additional construction, the Centre Pompidou makes an eco-responsible choice. During the closure, it remains active through an off-site program called Centre Pompidou | Constellation.
