Art Deco Walking Tour with Claudia Chan Shaw

Description of the Art Deco Walking Tour

Bustling Singapore is a fascinating mix of old and new. Come on a walking tour of Tiong Bahru, a vibrant residential neighbourhood celebrated for its concentration of graceful Art Deco buildings.

Step back in time to the 1930s when the Tiong Bahru flats were constructed as Singapore's first public housing estate. The Art Deco architectural style of these flats, which continued to see additions until the 1950s, is inspired by aerodynamic design reminiscent of ocean liners.

Wander among the Streamline Moderne buildings with their rounded corners, balconies and portholes and learn about the area’s intriguing history.

The walking tour will explore the charming district, with its distinctive Art Deco landscape. Enjoy street art along the way and discover a Taoist Monkey God temple.

Thanks to strict preservation laws, 21st-century Tiong Bahru retains its stylish architectural heritage. Cool cafés and bars dot the neighbourhood, seamlessly blending with its historic charm.
