Nathalie Bondil, Director, Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris, France)

Nathalie Bondil is Director of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.

A Franco-Canadian museologist and art historian, Nathalie Bondil has served as Director of the Museum and Exhibitions at the Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA) in Paris since 2021. She is leading the redesign of the IMA Museum for its 40th anniversary in 2027, including the enrichment of its collections of modern and contemporary Arab art through the major donation of Claude and France Lemand. Supported by the French Ministry of Culture, this project aims to strengthen the recognition of Arab arts and foster dialogue across diverse artistic traditions.

From 2007 to 2020, she served as Director and Chief Curator of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where she oversaw major expansion projects and developed intercultural and interdisciplinary exhibitions spanning cinema, fashion, music, and multiple modernities. A strong advocate for education and health research, she is internationally recognized for promoting a more inclusive museum through initiatives such as the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace, the world's first museum-based medical prescription programme, and the museum's Wing for the Arts of One World.

Alongside her museum work, she teaches museotherapy—at the intersection of museology and health research—as a mentor for the Université de Montréal, the École du Louvre, and the Institut national du patrimoine in Paris.

From 2014 to 2021, she served as Vice-Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts. She is an elected member of both the Board of Directors and the Scientific Council of ICOM France, and serves on the Scientific and Cultural Committee responsible for developing the future Memorial Museum for Victims of Terrorism in France. She has received numerous awards and honorary doctorates in both Canada and France.
